My Review

I have loved Clare’s books since I pressed I let you go into my mums hands and said you need to read this. It was the first time I had ever had to re read a whole chapter as I thought I had read it wrong.

After the end is a complete change of genre but utterly as compelling.

This book is everything , and I don’t say that lightly. The writing, the story, the characters , all are tender and heartbreaking in equal measure.

I loved that the story is not only split into before and after but also has a sliding doors split with both outcomes being told in parallel.

This is not an easy read and I imagine not an easy write either. The raw grief captured so well and so personally.

Your heart goes out to both Pip and Max in equal measure. It made it impossible to pick a side, which I had thought I would. As a mum myself I cannot imagine the heartbreak but hope I would make the decision best for my child.

This is the only book that has ever made me cry. So all I have left to say is

I am broken…….
