Blog Tour – The Agathas by Kathleen Glasgow & Liz Lawson

Thank you to Anne @RandomTTours for my place on the tour and to @Rocktheboatnews for my gifted paperback. All opinions are honest and my own.

The most popular girl in school is dead. And everyone’s blaming the wrong guy.

After falling from grace last summer, Agatha Christie-obsessed Alice Ogilvie needs to stay out of trouble. While smart and reclusive Iris Adams just wants to get the hell out of Castle Cove.
But now they have a murder to solve. There are clues the police are ignoring, a list of suspects a mile long and some very dangerous cliffs.
Amateur detectives Alice and Iris are about to uncover just how many secrets their sleepy seaside town is hiding…

My Review

After being dumped for Brooke, one of her so called best friends, the humiliation inspired Alice to go temporarily missing like Agatha Christie. Now a social outcast she is doing everything to keep her head down, including accepting tutorage from scholarship kid Iris.

Then Alice decides to gatecrash Brooke’s Halloween party at the castle leading to more humiliation from Brooke and ex boyfriend Steve. After she is roughly escorted back to her car an argument breaks out between Brooke and Steve and is witnessed by Iris, only for Brooke to then go missing.

With Brooke’s body then being found and Steve arrested for her murder it’s time for the murder mystery to begin…..

Told via Alice and Iris, this small town mystery is packed full of Agatha Christie Easter eggs. I liked that the two protagonists were from different sides of the tracks/castle and how they unite using the works of Christie to guide them in solving the crime.

This has your usual teenage angst, cliques and drama but manages to hold your interest with a quiet intelligence and the clever inclusion of different media forms via a murder board. With plenty of suspects, motives and an inept police department, as a reader you find yourself becoming an ‘Agatha’ fully immersed and looking for clues. I did guess the culprit fairly early on but I think the clues were hidden enough perhaps for first time mystery readers. It certainly didn’t spoil my enjoyment of this fun mystery book and I would recommend this for budding Nancy Drews.
